North American Honda Data Facility

Longmont, Colorado

The American Honda Motor Company Data Center is a 67,000 square foot, state-of-the-art data storage facility.  The building will serve as one of Honda’s primary data centers and is powered by a completely redundant electrical system. This includes (2) 3000KVA utility transformers, (2) 5000A Main Switchboards, (2) 2 megawatt emergency backup generators in parallel, (2) UPS Systems and a redundant PDU (Power Distribution Unit) power supply for each computer within the building. Encore utilized extensive 3D CAD to plan and layout the underground conduit installation in the two main electrical rooms as well as the paralleling switchgear room and the generator room.  The extensive preplanning enabled Encore to have precast concrete vaults designed to house each main piece of the power distribution system with all of the necessary penetrations made and we were thus able to avoid having to design the installation in the field; saving valuable labor hours and ensuring the schedule was not compromised.
