Mobile Blood Drive Donations Will Help 160 Patients at Children’s Hospital Colorado

August 18, 2025 – Lakewood, CO Encore Electric recently partnered with Children’s Hospital Colorado to host its first mobile blood drive, an initiative started by Encore Electric Critical Projects Manager Kevin Rohr whose family has been personally impacted by blood donations.

According to Children’s Hospital Colorado, a single blood donation can save or improve the lives of up to five children. At the Encore Electric blood drive, every one of the 32 available donation slots was filled, potentially helping up to 160 young patients in need. Rohr brought this initiative to Encore Electric because his six-year-old grandson Keaton relies on monthly IVIG infusions, a product derived from donated blood, at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Three years ago, Keaton’s life changed in an instant when he suffered a sudden heart attack at home, losing consciousness and requiring emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by his mother and first responders. This terrifying event led to a 22-day hospital stay, where doctors discovered Keaton had X-Linked Agammaglobulinemia (XLA), a rare genetic immune disorder. Since then, Keaton has undergone several treatments, including the implementation of an internal cardio defibrillator and regular blood infusions of gamma globulin to support his immune system.

Today, Keaton is a thriving six-year-old whose remarkable recovery and resilience has inspired his family – and now, his Encore Electric community – to host mobile blood drives and raise awareness for children facing similar battles.

“It’s incredible to me the way this company supports the employees and the community, and is available for more than just electrical work,” Rohr said. “I cannot say how much I appreciate the support of everybody that has been willing to donate, to volunteer, to give blood, and help coordinate this.”

By partnering with Children’s Hospital Colorado, all mobile blood drive donations stay local and go straight to young patients in critical departments like the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, Heart Institute, Pediatric Care Unit, and the Center for Children’s Surgery.

“The Blood Donor Center provides nearly all of the blood products needed for the over 14,000 transfusions performed at Children’s Colorado each year. Our mobile program collects about 65% of that blood,” states Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Since Keaton’s diagnosis, Rohr regularly donates blood to the Children’s Hospital Colorado. To continue supporting the hospital and the young patients, Rohr has scheduled two mobile blood drives to be held at Encore Electric in 2026, bringing the opportunity to donate directly to the workplace and encouraging teammates to join the cause.
