Offering A New Career Path for Low-Voltage Professionals
April 17, 2025 – Lakewood, CO — Encore Electric is proud to announce the opening of a new Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Lab Learning Center located in the Prefabrication and Tool Center in Aurora, Colorado. BICSI is a global organization that sets standards and provides training in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) field.
“The BICSI lab focuses on all of the standards, rules, and regulations for the information and communications technologies,” said Kristopher Roon, operations manager for Encore Electric Technology Solutions. “This lab is one of only two labs in the state of Colorado and I am one of 278 BICSI trainers globally.”
Each project, building, or installation may require different types of technology – ranging from outdated to cutting-edge systems – and the BICSI lab features a mix of both, providing students with essential hands-on training. From cable installation and telecommunications distribution systems to data center designs and outside plant designs, the BICSI lab advances low-voltage professionals.
To celebrate this achievement, Encore Electric held a ribbon-cutting event last week to celebrate the first BICSI class and the opening of the Technology Learning Center (TLC), which is an Encore Electric learning hub for everything low-voltage.
Earning a BICSI certification requires ICT professionals to complete an intensive week of training. The new Encore Electric BICSI Lab Learning Center will play a vital role in supporting and developing the Encore Electric Technology Solutions team and provide a career path for low-voltage professionals.
“It’s very important to have a career path for our people and to elevate them in the industry. With the BICSI lab, we can do this,” said Tom Waltemath, Encore Electric director of technology solutions, at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Throughout my career, I have had people who supported me and now it’s my turn. I want to give back by helping the next generation find their place in this industry.”
