Encore Electric Powers Transformative Technology for Visitors to Enjoy for Decades to Come

March 1, 2023 – Lakewood, CO — For Coloradans, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science is a local gem and a beloved site for visitors to learn about the world around them. Part of the museum’s richness comes from its theater, screening everything from documentaries, classic films and more.

To expand the museum’s ability to serve and educate visitors, the theater recently underwent a major renovation of its aesthetic and technical capabilities. Encore Electric had the opportunity to be part of a unique transformation project to power the enhanced technology and experience for museum visitors.

The first step of the project required teams to completely remove the old technology from the theater to allow room to build the electrical infrastructure needed to power a D3D Cinema.

The theater’s new screening technology contains advanced audio and visual technology, including 3D screening capabilities, surround sound and laser projection technology for the clearest viewing on the larger-than-life screen. In addition to this improved technology, the renovation also included improved theater accessibility features, like closed captioning and hearing induction loops so everyone in the audience can take part in the journey.

“Being able to bring new technology like this to something that’s historic to Denver is so cool,” said Encore Electric Superintendent Zach Lien. “We’re creating something that people will be able to learn from and enjoy for many years.”

Beyond the technological advancements, the renovation brought a new lobby theme inspired by a lush forest, concessions area, and sustainability features to reduce the museum’s environmental impact on the community its patrons call home.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science has been a unique project site for Encore Electric team members, and some are able to work in a local attraction where they themselves learned as a child. First Period Apprentice Jeren Reyes felt particularly impacted by the renovation, as it was the first project he joined after becoming an apprentice.

“I grew up visiting the museum and coming to the theater,” said Reyes. “For this to be to first project I work on is really special.”

Project Manager Lane Morgese also expressed that the projects at DMNS have always been some of his favorites to be a part of due to the challenges of working on an iconic building, combined with the unique nature of each project which always leads to a final product that the team can be proud of.

Being one of the focal points of the museum, this will be an exciting upgrade for visitors, like me, to experience for years to come,” said Morgese. “That’s something that I’ll always be a part of and be proud of.”

The theater renovation will include state-of-the-art projection and sound equipment, expanded content, and upgraded furnishings. The Infinity Theater is now equipped with new technology, enabling current and future generations to explore the world around them.
