Recipients Recognized Based on Leadership, Talent, and Service to the Industry

October 3, 2022 – Lakewood, CO — Encore Electric Director of Engineering Jeffrey Engelstad was named a 2023 Top Young Professional by Engineering News-Record (ENR) Mountain States. Recipients are named based on their talent, leadership and service in the industry, all areas where Engelstad shines.

A lifelong tinkerer, as he calls himself, Engelstad has always enjoyed the hands-on problem solving that comes with a career in engineering. Throughout his 14-year career, Engelstad has worked in a variety of construction engineering settings, from residential building, consulting, federal property management and more. His extensive background and natural drive have prepared him for his current role bringing innovation to life on Encore Electric projects.

“I have had the honor of working with Jeff on multiple projects and interviews,” said Sam Hamilton, director of prefabrication and virtual design. “He is not only an incredible engineer that uses a practical build approach but also a down to earth human that is just fun to be around. He brings so much to the table and I’m genuinely happy he found a home here at Encore. I’m looking forward to working more with him and seeing where his talents take him in the future.”

No day looks the same for Engelstad. From conceptual design for the preconstruction team, to collaborating with general contractor and engineering partners, to assisting project teams through problems in real-time, he supports projects to success from start to finish.

“Jeff was a huge asset to my hospital project,” said Daniel Riepler, superintendent. “He worked with the team to find solutions to dissipate heat from our abnormally deep duct-banks and provided support to work with our equipment AIC ratings with addition of a fourth generator. Jeff’s engineering expertise helped bridge the technical gap between the design and construction team.”

Engelstad has earned a reputation as a go-to expert and leader that his teammates at Encore Electric and partners in the industry can rely on both on and off the jobsite.

“Jeff has diligently worked to position himself as the de-facto electrical engineering and life safety expert, not merely for our Encore team, but for the greater Denver area,” said Electrical Engineer Jessica Garcia. “He is a skilled leader who naturally radiates genuine compassion, unwavering integrity, and clear communication. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from and to work alongside Jeff.”

“When I neared retirement, I was tasked with finding my replacement,” said John McGovern, former Encore Electric engineer. “When I first met Jeff, I found him to be personable, intelligent and with a good sense of humor. He has been all that. Everybody likes him, from our clients, consulting engineers, Encore Electric field personnel, the office personnel, everybody.”

“Jeff is an exceptional young leader that not only brings expertise and leadership to our engineering services group but sets the example for all up-and-coming leaders in our organization,” said Executive Vice President Marlin Linder. “He seamlessly stepped in after John McGovern’s retirement within Encore Electric and the front range fire alarm community, along with building a strong electrical engineering team to support our trade partners and project teams. I look forward to working with and watching Jeff grow within our organization and seeing to what heights that he can take Encore Electric.”

Regional winners will move forward to be considered for ENR’s 2023 Top 20 Under 40.

Congratulations Jeff!
