Growing up, Williams was always considered the “IT tech nerd” among his friends and was even given the nickname “The Professor” because he enjoyed troubleshooting computers and video games and learning to use new technology before it became popular.

At age 19, he decided to leave home and serve in the Air Force, viewing it as an opportunity to further his education, develop leadership skills, and see the world. Williams served in the Air Force for 22 years, working in munitions systems and leading a variety of technology initiatives, including the configuration and deployment of ruggedized tablets and computers used in field operations. Throughout his time in the Air Force, Williams was stationed at several bases including Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina. Williams completed five deployments, including assignments to Afghanistan and the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East.

“I was on the ground when the Iraq War and Operation Enduring Freedom first kicked off. I saw our military machines moving while we were actively fighting a war and saw how impressive it was to coordinate all of those different moving parts. I think I had just turned 21,” Williams said. “At that time, we were staying in 70-man tents and working 12-hour shifts seven days a week.”

While serving in the Air Force, Williams earned two associate degrees, including an Associate of Applied Science in Munitions Systems and a Bachelor of Science in IT. Williams retired from the Air Force in 2023, took one week off, and then began his career at Encore Electric as an IT project manager.

“For three years, I’ve worked closely with Gerald and have seen firsthand his ability to build strong teams, solve complex problems, and earn the trust of those around him. Gerald transitioned from his 20-year leadership career in the Air Force into leading successful IT projects as Encore’s IT project manager. I am confident he and the other managers of the IT Leadership Team will provide the leadership needed to move IT and Encore forward,” said Encore Electric Chief Information Officer Jeff Cann, who will be transitioning to a new role outside the organization on October 1, 2026.

“Gerald Williams has consistently helped bridge gaps between people processes and technology using his unique combination of empathy and curiosity. His leadership in the management of the UKG project was a testament to his ability to connect different work groups and innovative new processes. We’re excited for him to continue to shape the long-term IT vision, by leading the IT department in their mission of delivering secure, reliable, and innovative technology that empowers our teams to serve at the highest level,” said Encore Electric Chief Strategy Officer Jay Packard.

Outside of work, Williams is a proud father of three, and enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah, who serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the United States Space Force and Peterson Space Force Base. In their free time, the family likes to hike, trail run, paddle board, and play basketball.

“Family, service, and continuous learning are values that have shaped both our home life and my approach to leadership,” Williams said.

Encore Electric is proud to have Gerald Williams leading the Information Technology team.
