After 15 Years with the Company, Randy Sewald to Write his Next Chapter
September 16, 2024– Lakewood, CO — Industry Advocate Randy Sewald announced his official retirement from Encore Electric which will be effective at the end of this month. This is the second time Randy has “retired” from Encore Electric. In late December 2022, he moved from his then daily role as Director of Service & Special Projects in Denver to a newly created role of Industry Advocate. For two years, Randy has represented Encore Electric and the entire construction industry to serve as a liaison and advocate to advance the trades.
In his first two years of his first retirement, Randy served as the Interim President and on the Executive Board of the Associated Builders and Contractors Rocky Mountain Chapter (ABCRM) through 2023. He was an active member of the Encore Electric government affairs team and continued to mentor throughout the industry.
Randy spent a great deal of his electrical career at McBride Electric, starting as a second-year apprentice and working his way up to Regional Vice President, spanning a 35-year period. A personal relationship with Willis Wiedel led to Randy joining Encore Electric in 2010 and the Service and Special Projects team.
“Since Randy joined Encore Electric, he led the organization in transforming the Denver Service and Special Projects Team by elevating customer support levels and helping shape the quality of our service,” said Willis Wiedel, CEO. “More recently he has helped transform the industry, always representing the voice of the electrician and the opportunities provided by merit shop in a career.”
“What has always impressed me about Randy is his ability to make a positive difference wherever he has worked,” said Andy Gordon, President of Encore Electric. “I have worked directly with Randy since he arrived at Encore Electric and have always been inspired by the way he uses his expertise and energy with great impact for every team he has led.”
These encounters led to a strong understanding and appreciation for the culture and values of the Encore Electric team. In fact, one of Randy’s best memories of Encore happened during his first year.
“My first year at Encore Electric in 2010 was moving at warp speed. I had several prior clients curious about where I landed and if they could count on my new company for support. ‘Of course’ was my response. One of them involved the rebuild of a Data Center in Salt Lake City for a new end-user named Twitter. The schedule was aggressive – four months covering demo through flipping the switch. Marlin Linder was instrumental in providing the necessary Project Management and Superintendent leadership required for this $1.2 Million project. During critical periods, Encore Electric provided 22 field personnel working around the clock in two, 12-hour shifts. All in all, it was a lasting eye-opening example of how the Encore Electric team works,” said Randy.
In addition to the work for customers, Randy Sewald takes pride in many of his accomplishments with the organization.
“I love the chemistry of business and all the inner workings required to continue providing value in the marketplace. But more importantly, I have been blessed in being surrounded by people of the highest competence and character,” said Randy. “We stuck together through good days and not so good days. Across those years, their friendship and our memories together are what I’ll forever cherish.”
“If I can point to one thing, it would be recognizing how critical our success has relied upon a team that respects one other and marches in alignment toward a common purpose,” Randy said. “From that, one at a time many loyal clients were drawn to us, clients so grateful for the unmatched experience they receive from our team.”
Randy Sewald has many plans for his free time moving forward, including painting, finding an outlet for his guitar playing, spending time with family and remaining actively engaged in the governing direction of Colorado and the country.
“My final hope is that should any life or industry experience which I’ve gained across many years have some value to the Encore Electric organization, I stand ready to serve,” Randy said. “The one caveat is, minimally, you buy lunch.”
