Medium Voltage Team and Electrical Team Arrived at 2am Easter Morning to Perform Critical Electrical Upgrades
May 12, 2026 – Denver, CO — On Easter Sunday, five Encore Electric medium voltage team and electrical construction teammates performed a vital shutdown at AdventHealth Porter Hospital in Denver. The team arrived at the hospital at 2am on Easter morning to accommodate the customer and the needs of the hospital. The shutdown is part of the broader AdventHealth Porter Hospital Central Utility Plant (CUP) project that Encore Electric is helping to build.
“This shutdown was the beginning of a larger scope of medium voltage upgrades to AdventHealth Porter Hospital connected in part with the CUP expansion project. There will be approximately four more shutdowns of the medium voltage system and more than likely the shutdowns will take place in the middle of the night or on weekends to accommodate the customer,” said Jason Meredith, Encore Electric medium voltage operations manager.
When planning the shutdown, Easter weekend was the only available option. Although the team discussed rescheduling, they ultimately chose to proceed as planned in order to keep the project on schedule and avoid disruptions to hospital operations during the week.
As the Encore Electric team upgrades medium-voltage systems and powers the CUP expansion within the active hospital, they continue to prioritize the needs of patients, staff, and the community. To minimize disruption to hospital operations, Encore Electric Project Manager Kevin Kosters and project partners hold weekly coordination meetings with hospital staff, including nurses, surgeons, and department heads to discuss shutdowns and other major work.
The team needed to perform a shutdown to disconnect the existing medium-voltage feed to the South Tower transformer. This allowed them to temporarily re-feed the South Tower from the North Tower in preparation for Encore Electric to install new pipping, pull new wire, and set a new South Tower transformer in the near future.
“We planned on their North and South Tower’s normal power to be out for eight hours, but we were able to research and execute our plan of back feeding all the effected normal power with a generator backed up source, so the two towers were still able to operate at full and normal capacity,” said Foreman Dan Leytham.
Medium voltage and electrical construction teammates joined forces to successfully complete this early morning shutdown. Encore Electric electrical construction teams typically perform voltage work ranging from 480-600. The medium voltage team, which was recently formed in 2023, specializes in voltage ranging from 600-35,000 volts.
In addition to Meredith, Leytham, and Kosters, Forman Jorge Garcia and medium voltage Foreman Matt Wolfe assisted in the Easter day shutdown. The team arrived at 2am, shutdown power at 3am, and had the power back on around 10am.
“The team morale was good for starting at 2am on Easter Sunday. The team worked great together and worked very efficiently to finish under the projected time,” Meredith said. “Everyone was able to go home and get some rest before celebrating Easter with their families.”
“I want to thank all of the Encore team members that participated in the shutdown and their families for being understanding of the circumstances,” Meredith said.
