Ft. Carson Warriors in Transition – Fort Carson, Colorado
General Contractor: Mortenson Construction
Engineer: Cator, Ruma & Associates, Co.
Architect: TranSystems
Completion Date: 2012
Warriors in Transition building is a new 168 person (96,400 sqft.) barracks that will house the physically and mentally wounded soldiers as they transition from deployment in a war zone. The barracks is a 4-story facility with individual bedrooms and shared kitchenettes with electric cook tops, microwaves and refrigerators. It has a central lobby with an activity room on each floor. The bedroom’s lighting and power have been selected with our soldier’s well being in mind and will be designed to maximize personal comfort for each of them. A security system has been put in place throughout the building to protect them and to allow the WT Unit Command to maintain control of the facility. The handicapped rooms located on the first floor are equipped with state-of-the-art ADA electrical amenities to give our returning soldiers full access of their rooms while their wounds are healing. We also installed parking lot lighting and the site primary electrical and communications duct banks for the barracks and the 2 future administration buildings.
