St. Dominic Priory
Located in the Highlands neighborhood of Denver, St. Dominic Priory has had a steady presence and been a driver of community in the area for the past two centuries. As the Dominicans have grown their roots in the community, the demands placed on their priory have grown with them.
Over the past 20 years the Dominican friars have worked to raise funds and awareness for the need to renovate and expand the priory. After decades of fundraising and planning for the renovation, funding goals were finally met in 2018 and the renovation of the priory home could finally commence.
The new living space for the 12 novices and 10 friars at St. Dominic Priory was to include living quarters such as dining and sleeping spaces, as well as communal areas like a library, laundry, garden, and courtyard area. For the Dominicans, this renovation meant more than just a new building, but a renewed spiritual environment that will help them to grow novices into friars and continue their mission of service.
The renovation of St. Dominic Priory consisted of building an addition to the priory to house common spaces and additional sleeping quarters, updating the existing chapel, and connecting the two structures ensuring the technology and building systems performed seamlessly. The original building was constructed in 1964. Encore Electric integrated the original technology from the ‘60s with the new technology within the renovation and new construction. Approximately 300 new lights were installed throughout the priory, brightening the space from the moment you enter the front door to sitting in the chapel.
