Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) Glenwood Springs Maintenance Facility

General Contractor: Saunders Construction

Engineer & Architect: Stantec

Completion Date: March 2025

Encore Electric partnered with the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA), the second largest transit agency in Colorado, to expand the Glenwood Springs Maintenance Facility. The $42 million project expanded the original fuel and wash system to accommodate three types of fuel (natural gas, diesel, and hydrogen) into one indoor building and added an indoor heated bus storage area that can house up to 60 buses and a second-level operations facility. Ensuring the project was completed correctly, safely, and on time required close collaboration between multiple Encore Electric teams – including preconstruction, engineering, construction, and Technology Solutions – as well as coordination with the general contractor and outside experts.

RFTA has set a long-term goal of transitioning to a zero-emissions bus fleet by 2050, and the Glenwood Springs Maintenance Facility expansion was a necessary step to minimizing the company’s carbon footprint. To support RFTA’s goal, Encore Electric provided design-assist services and all the electrical work for the expansion.
